COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


OUPV CAPTAINS LICENSE (6 PACK CAPTAINS LICENSE)


$875.00 (All inclusive price) We DON'T charge testing fees, chart fees, tool fees or any other hidden costs.


THE OUPV LICENSE allows the transport of up to six passengers on an uninspected vessel.

Two licenses: OUPV Inland: Allows operation of an uninspected vessel carrying up to six passengers on inland waters only. Near Coastal: Allows operation of an uninspected vessel carrying up to six passengers up to 100 miles off shore.

Great Lakes Endorsement: If you have 90 days of your total sea time on the Great Lakes, you will be eligible for this endorsement USGC Approved OUPV

All testing is completed with The Captain School. You DO NOT test with the Coast Guard


Certification

Upon successful completion (attendance and passing required exams), you will receive a diploma from The Captain School. Students send diploma and application to the U.S. Coast Guard REC, along with your USCG Application to receive your USCG License. (You have up to 1 year to submit your application to the Coast Guard from the date on your diploma.)


Eligibility Requirements

USCG Application Age: 18 years old


Sea Experience

OUPV Inland 360 days* operating a small vessel 90 days of the 360 must be within the last 3 years. OUPV Near Coastal 360 days* operating a small vessel 90 days of the 360 must be upon near coastal waters beyond the Boundary Line. 90 days of the 360 must be within the last 3 years. * A “day” is defined as more than 4 hours away from the dock on a recreational vessel and 8 hours on a commercial vessel.

Prerequisites

License Description

The Masters license allows the transport of passengers on an inspected passenger vessel. These vessels must have a Certificate Of Inspection (COI) which states the number of passengers allowed and area of operation.

Two types of licenses

Inland: May take passengers upon inland waters only

Near Coastal: May take passengers up to 200 miles off shore

USGC Approved Master 25/50/100 Ton Near Coastal Course

All testing is completed with The Captain School. You DO NOT test with the Coast Guard

COMMERCIAL ASSISTANCE TOWING


$125.00


Course Description:

The Commercial Assistance Towing Endorsement is a four hour USCG Approved towing course for a mariner holding any license. This license is strictly for assisting disabled vessels. There are no additional sea time or service requirements for a commercial assistance towing endorsement.


MARINE RADIO OPERATORS PERMIT


$180.00 (all FCC fees included)

Many mariners operating inspected vessels or doing international voyages may be required to have a MROP.

Qualifications

  • Legal resident of (or otherwise eligible for employment in) the United States
  • Able to receive and transmit spoken messages in English
  • Pass a written 24 question exam (a bank of questions supplied by the school)


A Marine Radio Operator’s Permit is Required On:

  • All vessels with a length of 65 feet or more
  • All inspected vessels carrying passengers for hire
  • All vessels subject to the Radiotelephone Act
  • All towing vessels 26 feet and over



STCW CPR/First Aid/AED

Course Description:

This STCW CPR/First Aid/AED certification course meets U.S Coast Guard criteria. One must have a current certification in order to apply for a captains license. All CPR and first Aid cards must be current for an original and renewal of a license. The Captain School, Orange Beach, Al and Boat Tutors SW Fl offers this course in both locations or can recommend places in your area. Price $100.00
